Harnessing the Power of the Elements: Healing with Water

There’s peace that lies within elemental water – take for instance the movement of an ocean, river or creek, the stillness of a lake, pond, or bath. It doesn’t take much to have an ethereal experience when you’re near water, to experience healing with water.


Our bodies are made up of 70% water, which makes sense why we have a natural connection to its elemental properties. Just is true with everything else, elements are best harnessed with balance in mind. Both excess and restraint are unhealthy – it’s only when there’s balance that we feel harmonious. Consuming water in excess can lead to varying issues with toxicity, causing our kidneys, brains and bodies to be at risk. Not consuming enough water can lead to dehydration, which impacts the various internal systems in our bodies.


Outside of our physical connection to water, we might find connections spiritually and emotionally. If you’re someone who feels drawn to the water, then you know EXACTLY what I’m talking about! Water represents many aspects of life and is thought to carrying meaning through ancient practices such as Buddhism, Hinduism and many more, especially for healing.


What is water said to represent?

  • Movement

  • Emotions

  • Energy

  • Money

  • Hormones

  • Balance

If you haven’t considered what your personal relationship to water looks like and how you can tap into its healing powers, now is the time. Personally, I connect through the ocean, baths and consuming it internally. Without these representations of Water, I tend to feel more sluggish, foggy and unmotivated. For me, water is both energizing and peaceful. What does this look like for you?


Try these tips for connecting with water and harnessing its power:

  • Chakra work – water is thought to be connected to our sacral chakra. Through yoga, meditation or crystal-work, chakras can be opened.

  • Increase your water intake – it happens…we forget to consume the very thing that keeps our body functioning. Consuming water, consistently, throughout the day can have a huge impact on your energy levels and appetite.

  • Connect through nature – take a trip to your nearest body of water and spend at least 30 minutes experiencing the properties of water. Take a dip, sit by the shore, or simply bathe in it. What do you notice happens for you when your close to water? If you don’t have a body of water nearby, try a pool or bathtub.

Connecting with the elements can be a challenge, especially if you’ve never tried before. I believe that, no matter who you are, and with a little bit of focus, you can experience the natural wonders that exist as elements in our lives. Go ahead…give it a try!
